SALLY CHORLTON

Hi, I’m Sally from Portishead near Bristol and I’d like to introduce myself.

I’m 51 years old and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 8 years ago and am determined not to let it limit me.  I work as a Case Manager for people with head injuries.

Having recently had a fantastic holiday in Tenerife I’ve had a chance to try out a bit of sea swimming.  At a positively balmy 17 degrees I spent as much time as I could in the water.

In 2004 I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and raised £3500 for Diabetes UK.  Having had time to recuperate from that challenge I thought it was about time to put my ‘madcap’ on again and try something else!

I’ve started training in earnest.  I have to build up to swimming strongly for 1 hour 15 minutes in the pool - more than 100 lengths a session.  I’m up to doing 70 lengths in 43 minutes at the moment (March 2008).
