I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in May 2007.  The level of care I received was fantastic and, as a result, I have come to terms with the disease incredibly quickly.

I read a short piece in Balance magazine and saw the Channel swim as a perfect opportunity to give a little back and also give me the opportunity to partake in a huge unforgettable challenge.

I am 32 (as of 16th March 2008) and a Finance Director of Swanton Care & Community, a company that provides residential and nursing care to people with complex needs.

I am currently training for a triathalon in August, which involves wearing a wetsuit when doing the swim leg - but for this challenge the rules say no to wetsuits so I’ll just have to get used to getting even colder!
